Sarajevo is the epicentre of New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Balkans, with a huge annual concert taking place. Thousands flood into the city centre for the show, with the city, puts on for several days before the sky comes alive with fireworks at midnight. If you don’t fancy waiting out in the cold, the Sarajevo National Theatre puts on a beautiful orchestra, or you can spend the evening at a luxurious gala dinner.

Sarajevo has made a name for itself in the last several years with outdoor and indoor New Years Eve celebrations. These events are attended by up to 250,000 visitors, regional and international alike. For instance, a typical set of events include several indoor events with performers, anchored by a central outdoor celebration. This year the central event will feature Dubioza Kolektiv, a popular regional name. Dubioza Kolektiv is a Bosnian avant-garde dub rock group known for their crossover musical style. In addition, they are also known for their socially and politically conscious songwriting with lyrics in multiple languages.
As usual, Edinburgh takes the first place with traditional Hogmanay celebration, ahead of Vienna, Austria and London, England. Other regional cities that made the list are Bled, Slovenia (placed 5th) and Budva, Montenegro (placed 25th).
