Hostels for Backpackers

Bosnia & Herzegovina has plenty to offer to backpackers in term of fun things to do and memorable things to see: fun attractions, unique destinations, culture, historic buildings, open air markets and some hip places for dining and lounging.

The backpacker scene in the country is still on the rise but it is getting more prominent every year. As a result, there are nowhere near as many backpacker-friendly accommodation options in the country as there are in other European capitals. Most hostels can be found in larger cities such as Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla, but also in some smaller destinations. A simple search on Booking results in 51 hostel listings in the country.

We assume you will have arranged your accommodations prior to arriving to Bosnia & Herzegovina. If not, check one of the Tourist Info offices or do Internet search to find the best option for you. We suggest you do your homework and book in advance. Location is not always essential. Most cities are small and walkable and most attractions are easily reachable by public transportation or taxi within minutes. The most important thing is that you come to visit us, the rest is just details. Enjoy your stay!

Your Obligations

Officially, people who enter the country on a visa or without it need to register themselves with the police within 24 hours after their arrival in the country.

If you enter Bosnia and Herzegovina by car, you will have to buy vehicle insurance at the border if your country’s insurance policy does not cover Bosnia & Herzegovina. It is better to check before departing. It is an uncomplicated and fairly inexpensive affair.
